Are Dental Implants Right for You?

October 10, 2014

If you are weighing your options for replacing a missing or damaged tooth, dental implants are a great place to start. Unlike partials and dentures, dental implants are permanent and unmovable so you don’t have to worry about daily cleaning and maintenance. Unlike dental bridges and crowns, dental implants will not affect the surrounding healthy teeth in your mouth. Dental implants also have the added benefit of replacing the root of your missing tooth, which helps you to maintain strong and healthy gums and prevent the movement or misalignment of neighboring teeth. Make an appointment with Drs. Michael and Laura Ryan of Ryan Dental Group today. They are experts in both preventative and restorative dentistry. Their experienced and compassionate dentistry proudly serves patients throughout Dallas, Allen, Lucas, Parker, McKinney, Fairview, Plano and surrounding communities.

Dental Implants

The dental implant process is very simple. A dental implant is a small titanium rod that is surgically implanted in the gums to replace the root of your missing tooth. Once the rod is placed, a prosthetic tooth that blends perfectly with your other teeth is attached to replace the missing tooth. Through the healing process, the bones in your jaw will grow around the implant, permanently securing it in your mouth.

Mini- Dental Implants

If the traditional dental implants described above aren’t a viable option for you, Dr. Ryan also offers mini-dental implants (MDI). These are tiny titanium implant posts that eliminate bone grafting, require no surgery and can be placed in one visit. The MDI fits firmly into a retaining mechanism in your gums to hold an attached denture in place.

Calm Your Fears with Sedation Dentistry!

September 10, 2014

94298352At Ryan Dental Group, we understand that a dentist’s office is not necessarily someone’s favorite place in the world to be. Many people suffer from a fear of the dentist, and they may not know what to do. Though the fear may be mind for some, for others, it can be debilitating, causing them to avoid seeking dental treatment, no matter how badly they may need it. Because Dr. Michael Ryan and Dr. Laura Ryan understand the dental needs and fears of their patients, they are able to offer sedation dentistry at their Allen, TX dental office.

We are able to offer our patients a few choices when it comes to sedation dentistry. The first is oral conscious sedation. With this, all our patients have to do is take a prescribed pill before their appointment, and you will remain awake throughout your dental appointment. You will feel extremely relaxed and will experience no pain. Another option is IV sedation, which means we will administer the sedation intravenously. Both oral conscious sedation and IV sedation are for our patients that experience high levels of anxiety when visiting a dentist, and we will be able to customize your sedation depending on your nervousness. With IV sedation, we will be able to monitor your heart rate, breathing, and other vitals as you are getting your dental work done. With these forms of sedation, you will have to have a loved one drive you home after your appointment, as the effects of the sedation will still be in your system.

The most common form of sedation is nitrous oxide, otherwise known as laughing gas. This involves breathing the sedative through a nasal mask, causing you to feel euphoria and warmth. You will remain conscious throughout the appointment, and the side effects dissipate after the mask is removed. You will be able to drive yourself home after your appointment, and your smile will be in better health!

If you are curious as to how Drs. Ryan are able to help you overcome your dental fears with sedation dentistry, contact our office today!

Welcome Summer with A New Smile with Porcelain Veneers

June 3, 2014

shutterstock_192589115One of the biggest things people are doing right now is preparing for summer. Getting their beach bodies ready and buying all of the food to make for the perfect barbeque, everyone is excited to finally be able to let their hair down and have some fun in the summer sun! One thing people may be overlooking, however, is revamping their smile! If you have crooked, misaligned, chipped, or stained teeth, you may feel as though your smile will never be exactly the way you want it. Fortunately, Drs. Michael and Laura Ryan are able to give you the smile of your dreams thanks to porcelain veneers.

The start to getting your porcelain veneers begins with a consultation with Drs. Ryan. There, they will be able to fully assess your smile in its current state, as well as ask you about your future goals regarding your smile. This will also give you the chance to address any questions or concerns you may have, as we want you to be fully informed throughout the entire procedure. Once it is determined that you are a candidate, that is where the real fun begins!

Your natural tooth is prepared for your porcelain veneers by removing a small bit of enamel. This way, we are sure your mouth has enough space for your new smile! Your custom made porcelain veneers are then added, and are made permanent with dental resin cement. A simple procedure, but at the end, you are left with a completely new smile that anyone would be proud of showing off! If you are curious as to how Drs. Ryan can help give your smile the makeover you deserve just in time for summer with porcelain veneers, make an appointment today, and the entire Ryan Dental Group team will be glad to help!

Preventive Dentistry for Allen, TX

March 28, 2014

preventive dentistryHow often do you need to see a dentist? At Ryan Dental Group, we recommend that our Allen patients see Dr. Michael Ryan or Dr. Laura Ryan twice a year, or about six months apart. During your visit, we can help you clean excess plaque and calculus from around your teeth and gums. Plaque and calculus are responsible for gum disease and tooth decay—two very serious oral health problems. We can also look for symptoms of these exact conditions and propose a treatment plan to help you.

In between appointments, we suggest that patients brush at least twice a day, floss at least once, and rinse with an antibacterial or fluoride mouthwash. It will also help if you stick to a balanced diet. Limit the amount of sugary or starchy foods you eat. Instead, eat more fruits, vegetables, grains, and dairy.

Nightguards for Teeth Grinding

February 28, 2014

bruxismFor many patients, teeth grinding is a natural response to stress. What’s more, those who struggle with this problem—the medical term for it is bruxism—often have the most trouble while they’re asleep. This can have a devastating impact on oral health. Over time, the pressure and motion of bruxism can cause the surfaces of teeth to become worn. The muscles and tissues around the jaw can also become damaged.

Thankfully, patients who struggle with bruxism don’t have to live with their uncomfortable symptoms. With a custom-made nightguard from Ryan Dental Group, patients from Allen and beyond can sleep through the night without grinding their teeth.

Your treatment begins with a consultation with Dr. Michael Ryan or Dr. Laura Ryan. During your appointment, we’ll look at the condition of your teeth and talk to you about the symptoms you’ve been experiencing. Your nightguard will be custom-made for you, and we have many different kinds you can try; if one doesn’t work, we can see if another one will help you. We can also talk to you about relaxation techniques that can help you deal with stress.

Do you want to experience relief from the uncomfortable symptoms of bruxism? Call Ryan Dental Group today to schedule a consultation. Dr. Michael Ryan or Dr. Laura Ryan will meet with you, get to know you, and talk to you about all your treatment options. Our Allen dental office is happy to treat patients from Dallas, Lucas, Parker, McKinney, Fairview, Plano, and nearby areas.

Root Canal Therapy with Drs. Laura and Michael Ryan

December 16, 2013

shutterstock_160305989Regardless of what you may have heard, root canals get rid of your pain; they do not cause pain. An infected tooth not only causes an immense amount of pain, but can be more of an expensive investment down the road if nothing is done. At Ryan Dental Group, we want to make sure we take care of all of your dental needs, and Drs. Michael and Laura Ryan is able help you along that journey!

Having a root canal done not only helps in getting rid of your pain, but it also benefits your teeth. A root canal is performed when there is an infected or decayed tooth, and the decomposition has to be removed before it gets any worse. The doctors commence your root canal by accessing the infected tooth, and removing the pulp. When the tooth is infected, it also infects the pulp of the tooth, causing it to exacerbate. Once the pulp of the tooth is removed, our doctors will fill the tooth with a tooth-colored filling, and top it with a crown to prevent any further corruption. In the end, you’re left feeling refreshed and in better oral health!

When you leave your teeth infected, not only can your mouth get worse, but it can affect you in other areas of your body. By delaying getting a root canal, the bacteria infecting your teeth can enter your blood stream, possibly causing destruction to the rest of your body. It’s better to take care of your oral issues sooner rather than later or it may get worse! If you’re wondering how Dr. Laura Ryan or Dr. Michael Ryan can help you by performing a root canal, contact our office and make an appointment!
